Azema Marie Brouillette Mayeux

Azema Marie Brouillette Mayeux was chief from 1927 until her tragic death in 1975.

Joseph Mayeux,

Before her, our chief was Joseph Mayeux, son of Pierre and Josephine (great grandson of Old Chief Joseph dates unknown), 1895 to 1896.

Azema Charrier Marcotte

Before him was Azema Charrier Marcotte (granddaughter of Tsugande Charrier), who was chief from 1885 to 1895.

Old Chief Joseph

Before her was Old Chief Joseph (great grandfather of Chief Joseph Mayeux) who lived to almost 100 years old and led the Avogel wisely. The Storyteller says he was a descendant of Old Chief Colfa who was in the battle to drive out the Spaniards under the leadership of DeSoto. Some even claim that it was he who killed DeSoto, but we have no way of proving this.
